The Holy Trinity,

And after being baptized, Jesus went up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased." (Matt. 3:16-17)

Historical Overview,

Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church

In 1912, Serbs who migrated from Banat, Serbia, to Regina, Sasktachewan formed the first Serbian Orthodox Church congregation in Canada. The building of church started in 1915, and the church was completed and consecrated in 1916. The church was administered by Russian priests until 1947. Between 1947 and 1983 the church was without a permanent priest.

The services were held on the day of the church's patron saint celebrations and on some of the more important holidays by various priests and monks from The American Serbian Orthodox Diocese, who came occasionally or upon request of the parishoners.

In the year 1984, the newly formed Diocese of Canada, received its first bishop, Georgije Djokic and on June of 1985 Regina got its Serbian priest, Fr. Mirko Malinovic. In 1987 the foundation of the church was reinforced. The church celebrated its 75th anniversary on August 3,4, 1991. In winter of 1992 the work on a complete renovation commenced including the interior, addition of frescoes, and installation of the new iconostasis, which was imported directly from Serbia.

Following the completion of the work, His Holiness Bishop Georgije performed the Great Consecration of a Church and imbedded the relics of the holy marty Czar Lazar in the Holy Table. The Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church has awarded the Holy Trinity Church-School Congregation in Regina with the Order of Saint Sava-Second Degree.
